Bluebird Grain Farms

Methow Valley, best known for its miles of Nordic skiing and other outdoor recreation, has developed a new note, one that lands it in Seattle's culinary scene. The rare heritage grains from Sam and Brooke Lucy's Bluebird Grain farms have found their way onto the menus of some of the city's eateries.

Bluebird Grain Farms is all about nutrition. Their grains are grown in the Upper Methow Valley and irrigated with pure mountain water straight from the Pasayten Wilderness. They strive to keep their soils nutritionally balanced so that they may reap highly nutritious grains. They do this by integrating green manures and live foliar feeds within a crop rotation of grains, red clover, peas and buckwheat. They time their tillage strategies and field planting for optimum seed germination and reduced weed competition. It is their belief that these combined practices are the cornerstones of "organic farming." Living soil best propagates life.
